Do you have a Blue Cross of Georgia Medicare Advantage plan? If so, you may not be able to use it at Tenet hospitals. GA seniors with original Medicare and a Medigap (Medicare supplement) plan will not be affected by this issue.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia customers who go to North Fulton Hospital could be out of network on Feb. 1 as hospital parent Tenet Health Systems tries to ink a new agreement with BCBSGA parent Anthem.
“We have been trying to negotiate new contracts with BCBSGA since July 2011, but received no response until late December,” said Deborah C. Keel, CEO of North Fulton Hospital, in a statement.
Blue Cross Blue Shield continues to raise premiums in Georgia and nationwide, but hospitals and physicians are often not offered comparable rate increases, North Fulton Hospital said.
If an agreement is not reached between Tenet and Anthem, BCBSGA members will be forced to pay out-of-network rates with higher co-pays when they use any of the Tenet hospitals within metro Atlanta, which includes North Fulton Hospital, Atlanta Medical Center, South Fulton Medical Center, Spalding Regional Medical Centerand Sylvan Grove Hospital.
North Fulton Hospital is a 202-bed, acute-care hospital in Roswell, Ga.
