BCBSGA encountered a billing problem that means possibly thousands of individuals with Blue Cross of Georgia coverage may have claim problems.
If you have a BCBSGA policy and did not receive a bill for your July premium, or did not have your bank account drafted in July, you can expect to be DOUBLE BILLED in August. this has the potential of leading to a budget crunch in August if you don’t have the funds to cover the premium. If you are on a bank draft the double billing may result in bounced checks.
If you fail to pay as billed in August, your coverage can be cancelled RETROACTIVELY to the last month when premiums were current. Any claims approved or paid during the time frame where your coverage has lapsed will be reversed.
This means your liability for those claims becomes yours, not Blue Cross.
If you lose your BCBSGA coverage you may find it difficult or impossible to secure NEW coverage.
Georgia Medicare Plans has many Medigap clients with health issues that mean it will be impossible for them to obtain a new Medicare supplement policy.
If you have a Blue Cross (BCBSGA) Medigap policy and were not billed in July, make sure you pay your August premium when billed.
