AFLAC Medicare supplement plans have come to Georgia . . . but should you buy? The AFLAC name is known by almost everyone with a TV. This Columbus, Georgia based company has for years concentrated on the worksite market, offering a wide range of supplemental insurance plans.
Now they are back in the Medigap business . . . again.
After testing the Medicare supplement business years ago, and then leaving it, they have decided to re-enter the market in Georgia in 2012. For over a month Georgia agents that specialize in the senior (Medicare) market have been blitzed with solicitations to sign up as an AFLAC Medigap broker.
Broker response has been underwhelming to say the least. A few signed up and will actually promote the product but most of the ones I know only completed appointment papers to say they can offer the product.
I have yet to meet an independent Medicare agent that actually plans on promoting their product.
The initial offering in Georgia is reasonably priced but for most zip codes and ages, there are better values from Medigap carriers that have been in the market continuously for several years.
Should you buy an AFLAC Medicare supplement plan?
Keep in mind that ALL Medigap plans with the SAME LETTER are identical in every way EXCEPT rates.
If you compare Medicare supplement plan F from AFLAC with Blue Cross, the plan benefits are identical. Any doctor, lab or hospital that accepts Medicare assignment will also accept ANY Medigap plan. A “brand name” carrier does not pay claims faster or better, nor do they have an edge over a lesser known carrier.
The ONLY difference in plans is the premium rate you pay.
When you pay more you don’t get more, you simply paid too much.
Before buying a Medigap plan from anyone, compare Medigap rates. Georgia Medicare Plans makes it easy to click, quote and compare popular Medigap plans and we never sell your information to anyone.
